LJ Hooker surpasses $7 million fundraising milestone

LJ Hooker today announced it has surpassed a landmark fundraising milestone, having raised more than $7 million to date for charity, including more than $570,000 in just 12 months via the LJ Hooker Foundation.

LJ Hooker Foundation was established last year to bring together the fundraising efforts of its people across its Australian network of offices who come together to raise money for charity.

Heather Hilton, LJ Hooker Foundation spokeswoman, said the LJ Hooker Foundation has raised $571,927 in the past 12 months for its charity partners Cystic Fibrosis Australia and Humpty Dumpty Foundation.

“LJ Hooker Foundation had helped local offices engage with their community and make a difference to the lives of children and Cystic Fibrosis sufferers across the country,” Ms Hilton said.

“On any given weekend, LJ Hooker teams around the country are fundraising for our charity partners or local causes to make a tangible difference in the communities in which they live and work.

“LJ Hooker Foundation allows us to formally receipt and facilitate these donations ensuring that every dollar raised is accounted for and has a charitable purpose.

The funds raised this past year have been used to buy children’s life-saving medical equipment in paediatric wards, neonatal units, intensive care and emergency departments around the country for Humpty Dumpty Foundation as well as to launch the Cystic Fibrosis Australia Consumer Connect – a world-first online community hub established to bring together the Australians affected by Cystic Fibrosis (CF). Funds have also been devoted to research for Cystic Fibrosis.

Paul Francis, OAM, Founder and Executive Chairman of Humpty Dumpty Foundation, said they were proud to have been associated with the LJ Hooker Foundation for the past year.

“It has been a wonderful partnership with LJ Hooker offices able to fundraise and support their local hospitals, further strengthening ties to the communities they work in,” Mr Francis said.

Today (September 20) marks 89 years since LJ Hooker first opened for business on the sandy shores of Maroubra in Sydney. To support the LJ Hooker Foundation and recognise everyone’s contribution packets of Golden Everlasting Daisy seeds were sent to everyone in the LJ Hooker network as a symbol of how from little things, big things can be achieved. Fifty cents from each packet was donated to the LJ Hooker Foundation.

“Our founder, Sir Leslie Hooker, was a great believer in supporting the community,” said Ms Hilton. “He was knighted in 1973 for his services to the community and his belief and actions in supporting local communities are the basis that has seen LJ Hooker become the iconic brand it is today. We’re proud that Sir Les’ legacy lives on.”
