Justin Nickerson wins the Australian Auctioneering Championships

Justin Nickerson was crowned REIA Australasian Auctioneer of the Year last week in a tightly fought contest.

In challenging circumstances, Mr Nickerson delivered a seamless, entertaining call in very unusual conditions against Gavin Croft, Harry Li, Andrew North and Daniel Coulson.

Competition rules were given a bit of a twist this year with no time limits imposed. Competitors were under pressure from the start, with very challenging questions about the property and its associated B&B business, as well as uneven bidding sequences and some very unruly bidders – including the purchaser leaving the room before the end to “catch a plane”!

REIQ CEO Antonia Mercorella congratulated Mr Nickerson on his well-deserved result. “Justin has won back-to-back REIQ Auctioneer of the Year titles, for 2016 and 2017, so this caps off a very successful two years for this young auctioneer,” she said.

“He is well recognised as one of Queensland’s most accomplished and successful auctioneers, so it’s wonderful to see he has earned this accolade on a much bigger stage.”

Mr Nickerson and Gordon MacDonald represented Queensland as the winner and runnerup, respectively, at the REIQ Auctioneer of the Year competition earlier this year.

REISA CEO Greg Troughton congratulated both Nickerson and also the school’s competition winners while looking forward to next year.

“Congratulations to Tasmania and Carlton Heres on their fine win in the Australasian Auctioneering Schools Competition. Carlton did his State and Australia proud and is a star to keep an eye on.

“South Australia looks forward to hosting both championships next year and putting on a show that – just like the competitors – is simply the best of the best.”
