Australian firm Realar is breaking new ground in augmented reality with their property-viewing app Realar Places.
The platform has been specifically built for real estate use to help buyers visualise off-the-plan properties.
The app will project a 3D model of a property onto any flat surface, allowing a buyer to get a good look at the home and have a better understanding of the layout.
Australian technology entrepreneurs Dr Dan Swan and Keith Ahern are the brains behind the technology, which is currently available on Apple devices and will be coming to Android towards the end of 2018.
Agents can use the software using a paid subscription-based model, starting from $17.50 per month. There are three levels of plan to suit different business requirements.
The technology runs solely from the app, meaning it can be used by anyone with a compatible smartphone. The hope is that by seeing a property in the space and being able to explore it via AR, the buyer will get a better understanding and feel for the home.
If the app proves successful, it could bridge a very important gap in the off-the-plan purchase system. Currently, off-the-plan sales lack the emotional aspect associated with a property which can be seen and felt.
The current options for display homes or suites work in a specific circumstance, but the ability to be mobile with a display option could be a great asset to the industry. AR and VR options up until now have involved clunky headsets, which many users don’t enjoy.
The app is currently only available in Australia.
