Idalia: Buyers Flock to Woden’s Newest Address

For the past six weeks apartments in Hindmarsh’s new Idalia development have sold at the rate of around three every week with a cross section of buyers – led by young professionals – vying to be a part of Woden’s transformation.

Idalia is now over 70% sold, an impressive result that demonstrates not only the sophistication and quality of the residences, but also the urban regeneration underway in one of Canberra’s most historic town centres.

With excavation on site now complete and the basement slab to be poured in coming weeks, Idalia is on track for residents to move in come the second half of 2017.

Only a limited number of apartments remain and the recent flurry of sales means interested buyers should act quickly. Remaining one-bedroom apartments are priced from $334,900 and two-bedroom residences are available from $409,900.

Spread across three low-rise buildings surrounding an open central courtyard, Idalia comprises a mix of 27 one-bedroom and 72 two-bedroom brand new luxuriously appointed apartments in the heart of Woden.

Progressive urban renewal in the area has seen the opening of new cafes, restaurants and retail amenities, giving Woden town centre a rejuvenated contemporary, modern context.
Rob Speight, Hindmarsh Development Manager, said Idalia is proving especially popular with young professionals, including a strong proportion of first home buyers, drawn to the activity in the area.

“Buyers recognise the evolving urban landscape in Woden and the strong potential for capital appreciation for new apartments in this revitalised town centre. It’s attracting a strong contingent of young singles and couples to Idalia, given the project’s position in the centre of the action,” Mr Speight said.

“Idalia is resonating with a broad cross section of buyers, with a strong proportion of young professionals securing their first home in an area primed for growth. Downsizers and investors are active too, but it’s those who want to be a part of Woden’s regeneration that are showing the greatest interest.

“The mix of buyers sets the foundation for Idalia to become a diverse and vibrant new community in itself when complete next year,” Mr Speight said.

Idalia represents the most recent stage in the Woden Green estate being developed and built by Hindmarsh. The development coincides with ACT Government investment and broader revitalisation underway in Woden, one of Canberra’s classic town centres.

The ACT Government’s masterplan for the area recognises the capacity for Woden Green to connect the town centre to the open spaces of Eddison Park. Idalia has been designed to respond to and facilitate a visual and functional connection.

Major infrastructure upgrades are complementing the area’s regeneration. The ACT Government recently announced Canberra’s Stage 2 Light Rail connection to Woden Town Centre, while the new bus interchange further improves local transport links, reinforcing the capital growth prospects for buyers at Idalia. Projected employment growth in the area underlines the investment potential of the apartments.

Designed by Scott Carver Architects, Idalia apartments are designed to suit every lifestyle, with solar orientation, high quality fittings and finishes, sun-lit living spaces, stone surfaces, sophisticated designer appliances and plush carpeting. Thermally efficient floor-to-ceiling double glazing and energy efficient fixtures and lighting will deliver improved environmental performance and lower energy costs.

Hindmarsh has been delivering high quality residences in Canberra and its surrounds for over three decades. The company is currently progressing the new Iskia apartment project to build on its growing residential portfolio in the ACT, which also includes Sorell, Jamieson Apartments, Creswell Residences and the Altitude Apartments, as well as The Grange Deakin, Bellerive and Marigal Gardens retirement communities.
